SPEAQ will be a night of poetry, snacks, and creativity featuring award-winning poet Dawn Lundy Martin of the University of Pittsburgh. This will offer a great chance for young LGBTQ people to come together and SPEAQ their minds! Please pass this information along to anyone who might be interested, along with the attached fliers. It should be a great night, and I’d love to see you in the audience!
As an off-shoot of Dreams of Hope’s Web Poets online program, SPEAQ will provide a forum for young LGBTQ people in the Pittsburgh area to creatively express themselves. SPEAQ was started by a group of five men and women who wanted to expand the LGBTQ night life in Pittsburgh; specifically for individuals in the range of 16-24 years old. SPEAQ focuses on spoken-word arts such as poetry, fiction and non-fiction but will also feature singers, painters and other artists. Thanks to a grant from The Sprout Fund, SPEAQ is a Dreams of Hope program that looks to reach out to youth all across the Pittsburgh area and help their voices be heard. In times like these where the LGBTQ community is still fighting against prejudice and for equal rights, the voice of the youth can stimulate change and is now more important than ever.
