Running from Monday, October 1st all the way to Sunday, October 6th,the third annual VIA Music & New Media Festival continues its tradition of unique performances featuring emerging musicians and new media artists.
Spanning an entire week, over 50 local, national and international artists representing 4 countries converge in Pittsburgh for a/v performances, workshops, and interactive events that blend the best of nightlife and arts culture. Re-framing city spaces, the 6-day festival shows off a thoughtful cross-section of venues that are uniquely Pittsburgh: from riverways to museums, clubs, and transformed pop-up spaces. A number of free, all-ages events support ticketed programs. Emphasizing VIA’s literal meaning of “by way of, or passing through” the festival encourages Pittsburgh as a nexus for young artists on the borders of music, art, and technology.
Supported by a Sprout Seed Award during its inaugural year in 2010, VIA’s first two years also merited international acclaim from sources such as Resident Advisor (Top 10 Festival 2010, 2011, 2012), Interview, Dazed & Confused, Dummy Magazine, and National Geographic Traveler; as well as being celebrated locally by the Pittsburgh City Council (VIA Week), the Sprout Fund (2010 Sprout Seed Award), CityPaper, and other outlets.
