Teaming with APOST (Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time), The Sprout Fund is excited to announce a new program that will help regional out-of-school educators to better discover and utilize digital tools in their teaching. All kinds of great tools exist and are in widespread use around the country, but many out-of-school programs need assistance in implementing them. In working with APOST across the Kids+Creativity Network, Sprout is looking to help make those connections and help out-of-school programs be able to advance their learning plans by using tech-forward teaching tools.
How do Sprout and APOST plan to make this happen? Through the creation of the Remake Learning Digital Corps–a group of interested educators, practitioners and community members who act as experts in these free, low-cost and open source software learning tools. It is the job of the Digital Corps to take their knowledge to out-of-school program practitioners and leverage the learning experiences these useful, forward-thinking tools provide, allowing children and youth to gain the knowledge, ethics and skills they need to meet the demands of 21st century learning.
Beginning this fall, the Digital Corps will educate the educators and assist with making these learning experiences meaningful to everyone, advancing the skills of our youth for the demanding modern age. The ever-growing collection of this kind of learning software has become all but essential to the literacy of young people (from coding to programming to game-building), and with the Remake Learning Corps at the helm, both teachers and students across Pittsburgh will become tech-savvy learners of the future.
At the head of the Remake Learning Corps will be a brand-new position at The Sprout Fund as well. This new program associate will be charged with the organization and training of the Digital Corps and the resources they use. As these tools are constantly changing and advancing, the newly opened position will be filled with someone who is deeply interested in innovative learning and already tech-savvy themselves.
