Kicking off Pittsburgh’s celebration (Altoona Mirror)

The Altoona Mirror reported on events and activities that will be taking place in and around Pittsburgh this fall as part of Pittsburgh 250. The Trail Town Public Art Project was featured.

In case you haven’t heard much about this, Pittsburgh treats Brigadier General John Forbes’ Nov. 24, 1758, capture of Fort Duquesne - and its renaming as Fort Pitt - as the date of the city’s birth. So a coalition of business, government and civic leaders have put plans together for a two-month birthday party called ”Pittsburgh 250.”

It all kicks off on Sept. 27 - not in Pittsburgh but in our region. On what is being called ”Celebration Saturday,” special events will be taking place in six communities along the Great Allegheny Passage: Meyersdale, Rockwood, Confluence, Ohiopyle, Connellsville and West Newton.

Why would Pittsburgh begin its birthday celebration in these communities? Because city leaders recognize that the Great Alle-gheny Passage is a beautiful portal into Southwestern Pennsylvania - and an economic engine of significant potential.
