The Allegheny Commons Initiative (ACI) is working towards the restoration of Allegheny Commons, Pittsburgh’s oldest park, located on the North Side. While the park is used heavily and has captivating views enjoyed by all, the park’s history and features are often under-appreciated. The project ACI has designed for Allegheny Commons will take on the important role of acknowledging its historical relevance, as well as its natural beauty through an educational campaign so that visitors can interactively learn and participate while strolling through the park.
The scope of the educational awareness project includes placement of QR codes on significant, heritage trees, as well as historic monuments and sculptures. By scanning the QR code the viewer is brought to an interactive website, which offers fun and interesting facts, multimedia clips for further engagement, and also gives the park patron an opportunity to adopt a tree or participate in volunteer events.
