Browsing Sprout Programs

The Sprout Fund’s programs are unique within Southwestern Pennsylvania, with a distinctive approach to facilitating community change and creating social impact through a blend of grantmaking, community engagement strategies, and other forms of support. Since 2001, Sprout has supported 533 projects and invested more than $4.5 million in the people and communities in Pittsburgh and Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Seed Award

Sprout Seed Awards are modest financial awards that provide critical financial support for projects and programs in the early stages of development—when just a small amount of investment has the potential to yield big results in the community.

Public Art

Current Program, 2003 – ongoing

Sprout Public Art improves the image and visual landscape of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities by facilitating the creation of high-quality works of art.

Spark

Current Program, 2009 – ongoing

Spark supports projects in the greater Pittsburgh region that help children develop hands-on skills and digital literacies by expanding their capacity “to do” as well as “to know.”

Spring

Past Program, 2010 – 2011

Spring catalyzed community-based projects that demonstrated the value of biodiversity, increased understanding of its vital role both locally and globally, and provided the citizens of the Pittsburgh region with opportunities for meaningful participation in these efforts throughout 2011.

Community Connections

Past Program, 2007 – 2009

Community Connections supported 100 projects across Southwestern Pennsylvania that encouraged civic engagement to commemorate the Pittsburgh region’s 250th anniversary in 2008.

Engage Pittsburgh

Past Program, 2006 – 2007

Engage Pittsburgh convening members of Pittsburgh’s grassroots communities at a day-long civic forum called The Idea Round Up and offered catalytic funding to projects to turn some of Pittsburgh’s best new ideas into reality.
